Treatments available at Glasgow Premier Physiotherapy.

Treatments include Physiotherapy, Sports Massage, Electrotherapy, Cupping Therapy and pre/post event massages.

Here at Glasgow Premier Physiotherapy we utilise a variety of treatments to aid the recovery of your conditions. On initial consultation you will recieve a full subjective and objective examination followed by a diagnosis from our well trained staff. This will be followed by treatment which can take the following forms.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage involves the application of massage techniques with water-heated basalt stones of varying sizes and shapes on the body. The direct heat to the muscles allows a greater intensity of relaxation and manipulation of the tissues.

The benefits of hot stone massage include;

  • Decrease pain levels
  • Decrease stress and anxiety
  • Increase joint and muscle mobility
  • Increase flexibility of connective tissues
  • Increase circulation
  • Increase metabolism
  • Increase lymph drainage
  • Increase relaxation
  • Removal of lactic acids and toxins

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is an ancient modality of medicine in which our physiotherapists are trained to put special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create a suction effect.

Our patients ask for cupping for many reasons, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. The suction of cupping and negative pressure provided can decrease muscle tension, help blood flow, and sedate the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure). Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue and migraines.

Advice

Advice forms a huge part of your rehabilitation and comes from medical professionals that take pride in the advice that we give. We take each patient case is individual and at Glasgow Premier Physiotherapy we look at the holistic approach in order to tailor your rehabilitation.

Exercise prescription

An essential part of your rehabilitation is exercise prescription post diagnosis. At Glasgow Premier Physiotherapy we will prescribe you an individually tailored exercise programme that is specifically designed for your injury. The onus is firmly on you as the patient to comply with the exercises provided.

Electrotherapy

Introducing our new Radial Pulse Wave (Shockwave) machine as seen in use by Steven above. Radial Pulse Wave is the latest in physiotherapy modalities. The evidence points to a dramatic reduction in orthopaedic surgery for certain musculoskeletal conditions. These include: plantar fasciitis, tendinopathies (eg. Patella & Achilles), myofascial trigger points, tennis & golfers elbow, rotator cuff injuries and increasing circulation. Please enquire about our state of the art technology.

Ultrasound is one of many options at our disposal to treat acute (new) and chronic (old) soft tissue injuries.

Manual therapy

We offer a very much a hands on service. The techniques that we use are evidence based, safe and designed to help reduce pain and ultimately increase a joint’s range of movement. Joint Mobilisations and manipulations are just one part of your treatment and will be used if and when required by your therapist. If you have any queries regards manual therapy, please don’t hesitate to ask your therapist who will be happy to discuss the matter with you.

Postural, Gait and ergonomic analysis

Years of bad posture can lead to a multitude of musculoskeletal injuries and overtime can be the cause of pain. Our fundamental principle is to address postural abnormalities as part of your treatment. We can also address your working environment to assess whether we can prevent work related injuries.

Deep tissue / sports massage

Sports massage focuses on relieving built up muscle tension in the professional or amateur sports person, the manual labourer, the office worker or can help with muscle tension as a result of life style.
